Real estate is the main way by which any average Spanish person builds wealth. Spain has a much larger share of the average middle or lower middle class than some statistics suggest. A lot of families probably do better than you might think just by looking at their income, the regular jobs. There's also a lot of inheritance at wealth because there's a traditional culture of owning a property.
