A lot of Derrida's writing is difficult to understand and dry. Is that what he was like as a man? I remember once picking him up from Heathrow Airport, he was coming over to deliver the Oxford Amnesty lectures. And being a Frenchman, he tried to get into the driving position. He'd say, yeah, typical. I'm obsessed with rights. Off the cuff remark, in English, much more witty than anyone could be at the time.
