Pulsar Timing for Black Hole Exploration
Lisa is a collaboration between the European Space Agency and NASA to launch these gravitational wave detectors into space. The frequency of gravitational waves that you get from a black hole or a pair of black holes that are merging is inversely proportional to the mass. So whereas LIGO detects things with frequencies of let's say 100 hertz, they're looking for gravitational waves that are in the nano hertz band. If Lisa flies, we get to start to see these black holes in there in spirals and mergers, and that's going to be fascinating.
