Geddes: I was interested in learning and studying more how these projects that are officially supposed to bring development prosperity actually unfold on the ground. So, by the time I approached Shangli, I had done over eight months of field-working Kenya talking to different stakeholders. And I eventually ended up approaching Shangli because, well, I realized that if I want to understand the complexity of these projects, I do have to engage with the Chinese contractor.
