There was a study conducted by Baylor University and they concluded that people who fear hell are some of the most anxious Americans. But there again, it's not for everybody. Some people relish in it. And what's so fascinating is they're feeling the opposite, which gets into why is existed for so long. If it's lasted this long, there is some evolutionarily value to it. One function of how doctrines of human depravity and punitive terror at God, is their power to legitimize oppressive structures and maintain the status quo.
