Object-Oriented Programming - Java Community

I have the sense that this is specifically a Java community thing. I don't know that this was happening in like C++ or Pascal or like Smalltalk or Ruby. Maybe it wasn't. But my impression was that this was kind of something that came out of the Java world and maybe it was adopted in other places afterwards. There is also something, I think similar that happens in maybe in functional programming versus object-oriented program.
