The Patriot Act Rolls Back Corrections and Protections That Had Been Put in Place in the Post Watergate Era

In 1974 1975 we have these two congressional committees you have the church committee in the Senate, run by Frank Church. This is where we learn about all sorts of crazy stuff, including MK ultra things. And then in the house, you have Otis Pike, the Pike Committee does its own investigation and they're really interesting investigations. It was out of these hearings that a firewall came up saying that the FBI and CIA could not interfere with these political activities. The Patriot Act did it rolled back these very intentional protections that had been put in place because of abuses.
