What Is the Economic Value of Domestic Labor?
Yen: Slavery was a fairly small minority of people who traded or owned slaves. It tended to be the elite, sometimes rulers. While their labor was portant and useful, they also were important as status symbols. They're mostly women and children; there are very few adult men in genoa. And yes, part part of their role is this sort of, symbolic, you know, as signs of wealth,. Also as signs of power and domination.
