Is Consistent Snapshot a Good Idea?

Michael writes: I'm having i at with my colleagues regarding v m data base consistency. My understanding is a v m with a memory dump snapshot, application, consistent snapshot is safe. Or data bases, their theory is an atomic disconly crash. Consistent snapshot is better because a memory snapshot may catch the data base in between transactions, where a crash. would not. Thanks.
