The War of All Against All

For Hobbes, the war of all against all implies that there are zero protections. This is pre-state life where people are just, they have to defend them for themselves. For Foucault, civil wars are not fought by individuals, but by groups. The criminal is seen as having waged a war against society itself justifying their punishment. We come to associate deviancy and criminality with being fundamentally evil its opposites in this book.
