X-Ray Crystallography: How to Visualize Small Molecules

The ion channels are incredibly small to the naked eye, but they're actually very complicated structures. Dr. McKinnon has embarked on a career long effort to try to isolate them and then do these complicated techniques. One of them is known as X-ray crystallography that allows you to see what these very small molecules look like. And it's actually kind of cool. You can find certain representations of them that you can get a 3D effect by the sort of magic eyes crossing your eyes type of thing.
