Comparative Suffering
We have this tendency to compare our suffering to other people or even to ourselves thinking about what's happening in the present as it relates to another likely worse experience. We learn that somebody else has it worse and so our experience doesn't matter. The antidote is to ask ourselves, how am I like other people in my pain? How is there actually something that I'm going through right now that is connecting me to the broader human experience? Other people know what it's like to wonder what's going to happen next or to be afraid.
