The Battle of Shida Machi
On March 10th, 1945, bombers dropped gel bombs ranging from six to 1,000 pounds on the residential district of Shida Machi in Tokyo. The only thing that stopped the fire after it destroyed 15.9 square miles of Tokyo was a river. At least a hundred thousand people were burned alive; over a million had been injured and a million were homeless. But even though they were faced with this horror, Air Force General Curtis Lamay still ordered more bombings.
