The Importance of Being a Taker
There's a great book called Give and Take by Adam Grant, who is somebody I really admire. He shows essentially that if you're a taker and you just want to screw people in the short term, that's a pretty good short-term strategy. But over the long-term, his argument and his good data is that people who are givers, who help others get ahead, that because of the accumulation of favors, people feel like they owe you stuff, that they tend to do better in the long- Term.
