The Stranger in Hamlin
The town of Hamlin is said to have lost its children after a stranger came in and took them. Historians think they know why this happened, but it's not as simple as that. In 1227, about 50 years prior to the events of Hamlin, a battle took place on the border between what was then the Holy Roman Empire and Denmark. Instead of paying with their own lives, townsfolk would sell their children to recruiters hoping to colonize new lands.
