The Importance of Reserves

The world right now devised pretty neatly into a set of countries that have way too few reserves. Pakistan cannot cover a month of imports, Sri Lanka has no reserves. And then there's a bunch of countries who have way more reserves than they plausibly need according to any of these metrics. Those countries are just in a stronger position than the turkeys in Egypt and Pakistan to this world.
