The Clever Hans Trick

Clever hans was a horse that was supposedly able to do arithmetic. The psychologist oscar fungst demonstrated that the horse was not actually performing arithmetic. It turned out that the horse could actually read which number the owner wanted it to pick, and would, of course, respond in kind. Honison worked for a time at derblitz, a viennese tabloid that earned much of its income by uncovering the crimes of prominent people. He also managed to keep himself off the front lines by convincing his comrades that he was a psychic.
