So like a quarter of a billion pieces of mail needed to move. The national guard couldn't do it. And even though the government could have just fired all the postal workers, like ronald regan wiuth later, fire air traffic controllers, instead of doing that, they made a deal. They did a salary crease for them, and then also gave them another salary increase in exchange for signing off on new laws to reform the postal service.
