It's unlikely that apilaus himself would have published this speech if it were unsuccessful. You can tell he's kind of pleased with himself throughout this cant yo defnel ere always telling you that he's living this humble life, and he lives by his philosophical principles. And i'm not surprised if the people he was speaking against are anything like he describes them - although i'm sure he's exaggerating. But they just did not have the privileges that he had. Ledge of presumably law as well as literature and philosophy,. is a very showy speech, and it would impress yo purpose is to impress.
