The Relationship Between Genesis and the Ancient Near East
The first five books of the Bible that we call the Pentateuch or the Torah were authored by Moses. Christians tend to think of these as five different books but it could be thought of as just one book they're all connected grammatically to each other. All of this really is in the context of an ancient Near Eastern background and so when you look at these texts they correspond to the time in which they were written. The cultural background of the story and the customs that are mentioned have been documented for example in Akkadian texts of Mari from the 18th century BC and so on.
