joe weisberg is a former spy who went on to become a television er and producer. He created the show about two russian intelligence officers pretending to be an american couple living normal lives with their children in suburban virginia. His experiences at the agency helped form story lines in the Americanans, but they also helped shape his views on espionage. Eventually he came to believe that spying does more harm than good in the world.
