Longfellow's Poems
We can almost see how longfellow might have thought that he was answering emerson's call. He based this poem on some conversations he had, some things he was learning from native americans. Longfellow was a descendant of several mayflower pilgrims. His father was distinguished a lawyer. One of his grandfathers had been an american revolutionary war general and a member of congress. But it was left to some one else to truly fulfil emerson’s call for a true poet in the first place.
