Burr's Story
Aaron Burr, former vice president of the U.S., fled to Mississippi Territory in 1807 after President Jefferson warned him against a Western conspiracy. He was arrested and tried for treason by federal grand jury but released on bail; he continued to dream up new plans while running from justice. On episode 3 of our four-part series, The Burr Conspiracy From American History Tellers, Burr flees east with his followers as Supreme Court Justice John Marshall clashes over definition of treason.
