I think about the Franciscan intellectual tradition. It's the same sad story of the rise of modernity and modernism, right? In the 1800s, the schools of theology were being gutted. But those institutions began to be corroded. Then you have the rise of historical criticism and the attacks on Christianity in the 1800s until you get Leo the 13th saying, guys, we're losing. Get the, get the, let's go back to Scholasticism.
