The Impact of Proof of Work on the Bitcoin Blockchain
Bitcoin combined some previously existing technologies to create Bitcoin. It combined blockchain with public key cryptography and it used proof of work for its consensus. Those three pieces had all been done previously. And so combining those was like the big innovation that Bitcoin brought forward. The incentive mechanism is what allows web three to be a realistic vision, whereas before it wasn't.
