The Inevitability of a Republic in Australia
Jide: We don't trust the politicians to choose who we should have as our head of state. So it's a lack of trust in the politicians, which seemingly is replaced with a trust in the British royal family. And I think that is the situation in other places, but it's more keenly felt in places like the Bahamas and Belize and Jamaica. They feel that the royal family hasn't helped them at all, and that they really want to break free and do their own things.
