I think what you're also seeing is just a sort of increasing paranoia that is not necessarily tied to any specific use of data. We always say trust, but verify. And then I feel like the challenge here is with verifying how these things work. The current conversation about the ban of TikTok is one of these performative acts in politics. It has almost nothing to do with really being concerned for anyone's welfare.
