I'm increasingly desperate to believe the most rabid climate change denier, pro fossil fuel, you know, rabid conspiracy theorist waving a flag and screaming in my face. I want them to be right. The news is so appalling and frightening that it's actually a lot easier to just pretend it's not happening. And there's no evolutionary preparation for this. We haven't faced this since the last ice age. So we've got no sphere of reference for something as cataclysmic as one or even two or possibly 2.7 or three degrees of warming - which is what our current policies are taking as two by 2100. There's no capacity hardwired into the human brain to assimilate that
