Franklin: I came up with this wonderful, influential, world-changing argument. But then I went and Blum and rejected it. He says he was surrounded by Australian materialists who told him the idea was wrong. So basically, he didn't talk about it much; people would nicely ask him to present the pro knowledge argument side. And they'd politely decline because he had no idea what to say about the epiphenormous part of his argument. After being converted to representationalism - which is a kind of representationism - he finally felt able to write stuff about it. It's sort of a two step process.
