The Revolt of Yuan Shikai

In 1915, the governor of Yunnan province revolted and denounced the new emperor. Yuan realized he had to postpone his enthronement until he could restore order. But it was already too late for him. On March 22nd, 1916, he vacated the throne,. abolished the monarchy and resumed the presidency. In a joint telegram, they demanded the abdication of the new dynasty.
