'This Is a Good Christian Town'
For five months, susan b anthony endured blistering cold. Money for food in hotel rooms was scarce and sheof encountered openly hostile crowds. Despite the challenges, anthony continued her new york campaign. In 18 63, anthony and stanton founded the women's national loyal league which petitioned congress to pass a constitutional amendment abolishing slavery. They put their formidable skills to work and gathered 400 thousand signatures over the next two years. At the time, it was the largest petition drive in American history.
