Tim Newburn is a professor of criminology and social policy at the London School of Economics. The book asks why when it comes to the rules of everyday life British citizens are surprisingly compliant. Issues including dog mess, smoking, drinking, chewing, public toilets, parking use these as a means of examining British social life. It's what I described as a quiet social revolution and it's got all the patterns of a classic social problem.
