Is the Decatal Survey a Good Idea?
The time frame for the next decatal survey has been controversial. The report says that we should be able to launch a six meter super humbl type of mission in the 20 thirties, with the goal of launching an exo-shuttle by 2025. This is extraordinarily long for people to wait for this. But i think they were trying to be really honest and pragmatic about how long things take. They do take this long. Does that mean we should only do a decatal survey once every 30 years? I think the answer is no, because things change. We wouldn't want to put that off 25 years before we think about the next step.
