Is There Any Such Thing as Morality?
Kant says that if a law is going to have moral force, it has to carry with it absolute necessity. The idea is that there didn't be any such thing as obligation. There has to be autonomy of the will, which means that the will is not determined by external influences. Without law, there's no sense of freedom that you can explicate in ta meaningful way,. So it's the form of law itself.
