The Role of Critical Biography in Biography

Herman Bavink was a great theologian. He also lived in a particular historical period where people documented their lives really intensely and intensively as well. I'm there to try and reconstruct the story of his life based on what the sources themselves allow me to say, but also require me to say. So it's the kind of warts and all biography that's quite different to the biography that just exists to tell you how great this person is. It's not critical in terms of wanting just to tear down Bavink or it's not a hatchet job. But he does deserve biographical treatment.
