Narvai and the Iyán Expedition
In 1526, Lucas Vasquez de Iyán led 600 colonists up the North American coast with the intention of establishing a colony. Narvai's and his fleet battled storms as they rounded the western tip of Cuba and made for Havana. On April 12, 1528, the fleet spotted land north of what is now Tampa Bay. The next day, 300 men would land near what today known as the Jungle Prada site in St Petersburg, Florida.
