The Global Transition From Slow to Flash Drought
Chinese scientists have identified a new type of drought happening across the world. Flash droughts can develop very fast, maybe in just several weeks and become severe. Some scientists say it's kind of a new normal because of climate change. The concept of flash droughts was proposed in 2000s, but didn't gain much attention until 2012 when there was a severe drought in the United States.
