How to Optimize a Learning Algorithm
When you're investing your effort in learning, when you learn, you try to discriminate. So there is a reason that we, humans also, discriminating and have stereotypes. Computers use stereotypes for similar reasons, in a sense. For example, in our work, what we try to say is, it's important to optimize on many sub-population. Otherwise, just the learning algorithm by itself will invest effort where it's more worthy of general loss minimization.
