The Importance of Data in Game Design

There are some games that do run the risk of being a little bit, can we say over developed. But there's a lot that can be said for just sort of, how can I articulate this? Just being able to understand that what we on the design and programming and artistic side are trying to put out there might not necessarily be what gamers are perceiving. Getting more data to understand kind of what players are experiencing and how fast they are adapting to a new mechanic or something like that really can be helpful.
