I wanted to break down the decorum of the elegy, which is usually somewhat polite and offers certain kinds of consolations. But the reality for me was much more devastating. And i wanted to try and catch that devastation right at the beginning so that whoever was reading this would know s at stake. I've spent my life in poetry, and i'm not a religious person. After i'd been mourning for some time, i was left alone with my grief, and i really didn't know quite what to do with myself.
