The Impacts of California Prison Reforms
The first big reform was realignment in two thousand 11, which shifted a lot of the responsibilities from the state prison and parole to county systems. There is no research that finds any impact on violent crime of that particular reform. Our work found that it did lead to some increases in property crime. That was driven by an increase in auto thefts. And when you pass forward, prop forty seven is another one, as you said, it's at the centre of many of the discussions to day. Again, we have done does not find ta link between prop forty seven and any changes in violent crime.
