The Importance of Subsidizing Rents
The housing problem is always framed as an issue of lack of supply, but it's also an excessive demand issue. In the United States, we do have a problem that the rental units have been bought up. Yes, there is a big problem of private equity that bought up rental units and with monopoly power, they're able to charge whatever they want. And so they are raising for a while we had rent control with the part of the pandemic relief. And we need to do something about that too.
