When we think about it on two levels, both the steps, the actions and the stakes. So what are the stakes of this thing? What is at stake for us personally? It's not the steps that often trigger the fear response. The stakes very often are my ego, my status, a sense of power,. prestige, security, certainty. And all of the stakes that we associate with that social stakes, especially.
