Rose was experimenting with a certain form of modern printmaking here. He's not trying to do Renaissance technical scientific accuracy, but he is trying to present the human condition in this way. With really good paintings, you need to just be still in front of them for a time. It's like we're all like the Griswold family from National Lampoon European vacation.
