In 1953, the Griggs brothers were building a little company called Ooraida. Neif was annoyed at the fact that potato scraps were getting sold cheap as livestock feed. He figured he could do something better with them and came up with tater tots. They were a big hit; less than 10 years later, Ooraida had been sold to Heinz for $35 million. Last year they sold more than 3.5 billion teter tots - half a tot for every person on earth.
