The rogerines were arguably the first new religious group to form in north america. They were frequently arrested and punished for intentionally provoking their neighbors by doing things like working on the sabbath. A lot of these new religious ideas that developed and found new audiences in the colonies were inflected with perfectionism, with this idea of overcoming sinful human nature and becoming perfect.
