What Is Elphin-Tine?
Elphin-Tine is the name of an island in the Nile at the very southernmost border of both ancient and modern Egypt. It was a military outpost, a fortress facing southwards, trying to ward off incursions from Nubia but also probably more directly, honestly, to suppress revolts of the subject native Egyptians. Among the Aramaic speaking peoples who populated the community, who served in the garrison were Jews or Judeans. And there's also sort of remarkable drama to do with the destruction of that temple that they had done there.
