Black Elk's Vision

As a young boy, Black Elk felt sick and experienced a great vision. He saw two men from his first vision who said a sacred voice was calling him. They took him up into the clouds where they showed him a bay horse. It contained a lot of parabolic imagery involving animals like horses, eagles, geese, and dogs. And he saw two intersecting roads in his vision, a red road and a black road. The red road ran north to south; it was sacred and associated with blessings. While the black road ran east to west and was associated with destruction.
