The reason why they can still appear in their awakend state is because they're just seen through. So it makes no sense to be trying to get rid of them from a point of view thinking you're not awake. All we simply did was see, oh, i'm not thad and we don't know what we are. The fool picture of the person still plays on. And so like you said earlier, you've stumbled upon lostness.
