The Origins of Coffee
The rise of European colonialism shifts the locus of where coffee is going to be important. The Indian Ocean region began the whole rise of coffee as a global commodity, but very much under the control of indigenous merchant groups in India and along what we call the Emirates today. Coffee begins to spread to another slave regime in Brazil and expands on a global scale in the 19th century.
